Here are some really useful websites about poetry.

The Poetry Archive
The Poetry Station – a large selection of videos of poets reading their poems. Excellent for use in the classroom.
All Poetry – claiming to be the world’s largest poetry community. Many new and old poems to enjoy.
Poetry on Loan – promotes contemporary poetry through public libraries in the West Midlands. Some super content.
Perform-a-poem – super website from Michael Rosen on how to encourage children to perform poetry out loud.
Poetry Out Loud – home site of American poetry competition. Contains links to inspirational performances and tips on how to receite poetry. Useful resource.
www.poemhunter.com – classic and modern poems grouped by theme.
www.childrenspoetrybookshelf.co.uk – attractive child-friendly site with children’s own poems, often in their own handwriting.
www.nationalpoetryday.co.uk – official website of the national day with downloadable resources for teachers. Also linked from the Forward Arts Foundation.
www.poetryarchive.org/childrensarchive/home.do – dedicated area for children’s poets, interviews with poets, lesson ideas.
www.applesandsnakes.org/page/73 – contemporary poets ‘with bite’. Lesson ideas provided in section for teachers, including those linked to other areas of the curriculum.
www.poetryclass.net/kids.htm – good resource for teachers with links to other poetry websites.
The Poetry Foundation – US-based massive resource of poetry, mainly for adults. Includes readings by many poets themselves, plus detailed classroom ideas for studying poems. This is a link to their children’s section.
Poetry by Heart – a rich resource featuring some wonderful poets. It could inspire a competition in your own school!
Sheer Poetry – you have to pay to be a member of this site.
